An Update For Popular Flash Player

Adobe has launched a preview version of their new Flash Player, mysteriously dubbed “Square”. This new version has 2 key features that we believe are worth mentioning. With that being said, let’s get right into the matter and see what this preview boasts.
IE 9 Support
Despite popular opinion that IE is by far one of the worst browsers out there, its lingering presence in worldwide statistics is undeniable – up to 30% of total number of computers use it. This being the case, it would be inconsiderate to leave it out of the loop.

As a result, the Flash Player team declared that they have been working with the Internet Explorer team for quite some time on implementing special features for the already released Internet Explorer 9. Given the collaboration, it is only natural to see that the Flash Player “Square” has been improved to directly support the hardware-accelerated graphics capabilities in the newest version of IE. This includes leveraging the GPU support that the new IE offers in order to deliver faster and more responsive user experience. The result of such a feature is a 35% improvement in performance, especially in the case of bitmap-heavy content and content created for Flash Player that is embedded as transparent (wmode=”transparent”) – partly because the HTML and Flash content composting process will be offloaded to the GPU.

Native 64-bit support

This new “sneak peak” version also includes extended 64-bit browser support. This means that it improves on the previous Linux 64-bit support, as well as launching 64-bit support for Windows and Mac. As a result, users having a 64-bit operating system will be able to see improvements in both speed and stability of the Flash Player Plugin.

That's about it

I’m happy to say that this is quite interesting for me, and I hope to get my hands on the full version as soon as possible. I’d be eager to hear what you have to hear.

PS

By the way, if you want to test the preview for yourself, you can get it from here.
